
THE 16-DAY (WHITE RIBBON) CAMPAIGN

For the Health of Women, For the Health of the World:
No More Violence
Each year, during the sixteen days from 25 November to 10 December, in many countries throughout the world, there is a campaign to stop violence against women. For Cambodia , this year is the 5 th year of holding this campaign by carrying out many activities prepared by non-government organizations and related institutions with the aim of increasing awareness of domestic violence against women and children within community.
This year Cambodian Men Network under coordination of Gender and Development for Cambodia cooperate with Ministry of Women Affair, Ministry of Interior, GAD/network in around 60 local NGOs and other stakeholders who activist in aiming to increase awareness of domestic violence against women and children in Cambodia decided to hold the 16 days White Ribbon Campaign in 12 places in Cambodia. Among of 7 provinces will catch up with Pubic marching campaign, 5 provinces will take responsibility with Door-Door greeting. The Media broadcast will process through CTN Round table discussion, Radio talk show, new paper and press release from the 24 th November to the 10 th December.
The campaign will increase the awareness of root cause of domestic violence against women and children and recognizing the changing role of men in combating the issue of violence against women and children under the global campaign theme “For the Heath of Women, For the Health of the World: No More Violence” which means below:
1. Violence against women is traumatic to the body, mind, and spirit and can prevent women from being fully active participants at home and in the word.
2. Violence limits women's ability to protect against infection and can compromise access to a rang of critical health information and services, including testing and treatment.
3. If you tolerate violence against women, you are an accomplice to the violence or if you keep silent about violence against women, you conduct the violence.
4. Violence against women increases women's vulnerability to HIV/AIDS infection.
To reach our message, we will disseminate all of that information by taking some planned activities such as:
Marching in the street and Door to Door greetings in order to distribute white ribbon, leaflets, and pass on meaning and explanation of white ribbon and information relating to the above topic.
Radio broadcasting programme.
Round table group discussion on air and television based on the meaning of White Ribbon Campaign and releases the out come of the whole 16 Days Campaign through out the country.
